In Mastering Physics, always answer numerical questions with 3 significant figures unless the problem specifically requests that you do otherwise.

CAUTION:  Do not wait until the last minute to work and submit your Mastering Physics homework.  It is a computer based system.  Things go wrong with computers.  I will not accept "computer problems" as an excuse for not being able to submit Mastering Physics homework on time.  Many students submit Mastering Physics homework several days early.  They consult me in office hours first and have plenty of margin to deal with computer problems.
Due 1/20/06 by 1000, day 2.  Read the syllabus.  Purchase and register a keypad.  Register for Mastering Physics.   Read Chapter 1.  Go to Mastering Physics and work assignment 1.  (#1 Intro & Vectors 1 due day 2)  There is no grade for this assignment

Due 1/23 by 1000, day 3.  Read Chapter 2 sections 1-3.  Go to Mastering Physics and work assignment 2. (#2 Units and SF's and Vectors 2  due d3)  There is no grade for this assignment.  In addition, work (not graded) End of Chapter (EOC) 1.35 (this means this is a problem in your book at the end of chapter 1).

Due 1/25 by 1000, day 4.  Read Chapter 2 section 4.  Go to Mastering Physics and work assignment 3.  (#3 Vectors 3 and 1 D motion 1 due d4) This Mastering Physics homework will count for a grade.

Due 2/15 by 1000, day 13.  Read Chapter 5 section 3 up though "Rolling Friction".  Omit the remainder of section 3.  Go to Mastering Physics and work assignment 11.  (#11 N's Laws 2 due d13).  This is graded.

Due 3/20 by  2300, day 24.  Read Chapter 12 section 3, Chapter 8  sections 1,2.  Go to Mastering Physics and work assignment 21.  (#21 Energy 3 due d24). This is graded.  Also work end of chapter problem 7.55 which is not graded.

Due 3/22 by 1000, day 25.  Read Chapter 8 section 3.  Go to Mastering Physics and work assignment 22.  (#22 Energy 4 Momentum 1 due d25).  This is graded.  Note, for the problem "Not Quite Around the Globe" assume that h is measured to the horizontal line forming the top of the angle theta.

(#25 Momentum 4 Rotation 1 due d28).  This is graded.  Also work the class handout called "Additional Problem Gravitational Slingshot" which is not graded.  Note that for problem 9.8 that in parts b and c they are asking for the length of the time interval.

Due 4/5 by 1000, day 31.  Read Chapter 10 section 3.  Go to Mastering Physics and work assignment 28.  (#28 Rotation 4 due d31). This is graded.

Due 4/7 by 1000, day 32.  Read Chapter 10 sections 5 and 6.  (We will omit section 4.)  Go to Mastering Physics and work assignment 29.  (#29 Rotation 5 due d32). This is graded.

Test 3 material includes material through homework #29.  Homework  #29  is also the start of the material for test 4.  #29 is included in the material for which you are responsible for both test 3 & test 4 since it involves some transition material. 

Due 4/10 by 1000, day 33. Work, but do not hand in, the class handout additional problem about the falling  rod; there is no grade for this problem.

4/12 is the date for test 3, this is day 34.  There is no homework due today.

Due 4/14 by 2300 (11pm at night to give you more time to recover from the test), this is day 35.  Go to Mastering Physics and work assignment 30.  (#30 Rotation 6 due d 35).  This is graded.  Also work but do not hand in, the "Additional Problem Rolling" handed out in class.  The "Additional Problem Rolling" is not graded.

Due 4/17 by 1000, day 36.  Go to MasteringPhysics and work assignment 31.  (#31 Rotation 7 due d36.)  This is graded.  Also work, but do not hand in, problem 10.43 (10.43 is not graded).  Read Chapter 11 sections 1,2,3 and Read Chapter 13 section 1.

Note: Since I did not cover all the material on Friday 4/14, the due date of the homework that was due 4/17 by 1000 is extended 24 hours.

Due 4/19 by 1000, day 37.  Read Chapter 13 sections 2 and 3.  Go to MasteringPhysics and work assignment 32.  (#32 Equilibrium due d37.)  This is graded.

Due 4/21 by 1000, day 38.  Additional Problem Angular Momentum (handed out in class and not graded).  Read Chapter 13 sections 4, 5, 6. Go to MasteringPhysics and work assignment 33.  (#33 SHM 1 due d38).  This is graded.

Due 4/24 by 1000, day 39.  Read Chapter 15 sections  1, 2, 3.  Go to MasteringPhysics and work assignment 34. (#34 SHM 2 due d39).  This is graded.  Please note that you will need to know the moment of inertia of a hoop about one end to work one of the problems; it is 2 times m times r squared.

Due 4/26 by 1000, day 40. We will skip sections 4 and 5 of C15 and I will hit the highlights of sections 6, 7 and 8.  You should at least skim these sections. Go to MasteringPhysics and work assignment 35.  (#35 Waves 1 due d40).  This is graded.

Due 5/1 by 1000, day 42.  Read Chapter 16 section  3.  Go to  MasteringPhysics and work assignment 36.  ( #36 Waves 2 due d42).  This is graded.
