Homework Assignments XII - XXIII , prior to the second Exam

There is a homework assignment due (almost) every class period!
If on paper, they should be turned in at the alphabetically-labelled box at the front of the classroom,        before class begins!

If on WebAssign, they are due at or before 1 AM of the night after class!
Note that due dates are given in Spanish.

No. XII: due on lunes, 18 de febrero

  1. Paper problems below are due at the beginning of class, on Monday.
    1. Chapter 5: Problem 25P
    2. Chapter 5: Problem 29P
  2. There are 3 WebAssign problems, concerning free body diagrams and calculations done with Newton's 2nd Law, due late Monday night, as usual.
For solutions click right here, after the assignment has been turned in.

No. XIII: due on miercoles, 20 de febrero

  1. A single paper problem to be turned in:
    1. Chapter 5: Please do Problem 52P to be turned in at classtime. HOWEVER, do NOT allow it to be pushed upward "at constant speed," BUT, rather, to be accelerating upwards at the rate of 1 m/s².
  2. WebAssign Session: two problems from near end of Chapter 5, and two questions from Chapter 6, concerning friction.
For solutions click right here.

No. XIV: due on viernes, 22 de febrero

  1. As suggested in the first WebAssign problem, PLEASE turn in on paper, at classtime, ONLY the free-body diagram for that first WebAssign problem, concerning a rock climber with frictional forces on her feet and back.
  2. WebAssign Session: Two somewhat more difficult problems, and one easy one, from Chapter 6, concerning friction.

No. XV: due on lunes, 25 de febrero

  1. Please do the one problem, Chapter 6: Problem 27P, to turn in on paper at classtime. In addition to what is requested there, ALSO please draw on your paper good sketches showing the TWO free-body diagrams for EACH of the two objects being considered, the block and the slab.
  2. There are 4 WebAssign problems due at night, that concern both friction and circular motion.

No. XVI: due on miercoles, 27 de febrero

  1. There are no paper problems due today.
  2. There are 4 WebAssign problems available, due this night.

No. XVII: due on viernes, 1 de marzo (March)

  1. There are 2 paper problems due today, in class:
    1. Chapter 7: Question 4,
    2. Chapter 7: Question 5.
  2. There are 4 WebAssign problems assigned, all from Chapter 7, due this night.

The first Challenge problem, No. I, has now been assigned.
You may access it at this link.
The due date is the Monday after Spring Break, 18 March,
but you may turn it in earlier if you like.

Solutions are discussed here.

No. XVIII: due on lunes, 4 de marzo

  1. There is 1 paper problem due today, in class:
    1. Chapter 8: Question 6,
  2. There are 4 rather simple WebAssign problems assigned, selected from Chapters 6, 7, and 8, due this night.
For one of them you must use the green handout Sheet correct for very fast speeds, i.e., near the speed of light.

No. XIX: due on miercoles, 6 de marzo

  1. There are 0 paper problems due today.
  2. There are 4 rather simple WebAssign problems assigned, selected from Chapters 7 and 8, due this night.

No. XX: due on viernes, 8 de marzo

  1. There is 1 paper problem due today, in class:
    1. Chapter 8: Problem 64P,
  2. There are 4 WebAssign problems assigned, from Chapter 8, due this night.
The last one requires you to use derivatives to find minima of functions.

Please enjoy Spring Break, but remember to read your physics text.
Also note the problems below due on Monday.

No. XXI: due on lunes, 18 de marzo

  1. There are no paper problems due today;
However, the Challenge Problem is due today, at classtime.
  2. There are 3 WebAssign problems assigned, two from Chapter 8, and one from the beginning of Chapter 9, which you might want to have read during the break. They are due this night.

No. XXII: due on miercoles, 20 de marzo

  1. There are a pair of paper problems due today, in class, which are strongly related to one another:
    1. Chapter 9: Question 3,
    2. Chapter 9: Problem 19P.
  2. There are 4 WebAssign problems assigned, from Chapter 8, due this night.
The last one requires you to use derivatives to find minima of functions.

No. XXIII: due on viernes, 22 de marzo

  1. There are no paper problems due today, because of the exam on Monday next. Instead, think about working out un-assigned problems as review!
  2. There are however, 4 WebAssign problems assigned, from Chapter 9, due this night.
One of them requires that you use the new green sheet for relativistic momentum.
