Homework
Homework will be assigned each week and will be due one week later. Homework is a very important part of the course. It gives you practice in thinking about the ideas we have talked about and a chance to apply them to different situations. To do well on the tests, you need to understand the homework. If you have difficulty with it, you may work with others, or get help from me. The important thing about homework is to try to really understand it, not just get the correct answer. The homework consists of questions from the web-based WebAssign. In addition to your textbook, you will need to purchase a WebAssign card from the bookstore. To register for the online WebAssign system you will need to use a computer (there are computer pods around the campus for UNM students to use) and have a UNM Web address. I will set up an account for you so you can do your homework on line at WebAssign. You can log on to this website at http://www.webassign.net/student.html. Your username will be the first initial of your first name plus your last name. For example, my webassign username would be “kmorrison”. If you have a hyphenated last name, I will use only the first of these two names. If your last name is "Maria Von xxx", I will leave out the space, ie, "mvonxxx". Your password will be the last four digits of your social security number. If the first number of the last four digits is a "0" as in "0123". you should just drop the "0" and use the last three digits as your password. After you log in, I encourage you to change your password. You will find the assigned homework and the date it is due on WebAssign.
Warning: If you have problems getting to the homework assignments in WebAssign, let me know right away. Don’t wait until later in the course. Homework assignments will be due each week. You can submit your answers in WebAssign and get immediate feedback on your answers. You will have five (5) chances to change your answers. After the due date for the assignment, WebAssign will post the answers for you to see.
I will post notices in the WebAssign site on a regular basis, so be sure to review these reqularly. Homework is graded and will be part of your overall grade. The first homework assignment will be available on WebAssign starting the second week of class. The due date will be given on WebAssign also. If you require help with computer issues then you need to contact Josh Stephenson who handles these matters for the department.
