Physics 110: Introduction to Applied Physics
An 8-week, 3-credit course starting Monday, October 19, 2009.

Designed for students who are struggling in Physics 151 or Physics 160 who still need 3 credits and who need to learn skills to succeed in Physics 151 or 160 in a subsequent semester. Students may drop Physics 151 or 160 and register for Physics 110. Keep your dream major and your scholarship alive. May be taken before Physics 151 or Physics 160. May be taken if you need to drop Math 180, 181, 162. May not be taken with P151 or P160. NOTE:  Physics 110 does not replace P151 or 160 for your major requirements.

Topics: Motion, vectors, unit analysis, graphing, forces, solving equations, solving word problems, and applied physics.

Meets: Monday through Thursday from 7:30-8:45 AM in Regener Hall, Room 114 (NOT the Physics and Astronomy building, please check http://panda.unm.edu/findpanda/ for more information on room location), Yes, you do have to get up early, but that way Physics 110 won’t interfere with your other classes.

If you are currently registered for P151 or P160 and want to switch your registration to P110, then you need ONLY to sign the request form that your instructor will have available for that purpose.  The department will then request the university to credit your tuition toward your P110 class, away from your P151 or P160 class, removing that one from your transcript for this semester.

It is also possible to simply register directly online for Physics 110
[CRN# 25912] if you are not currently registered for P151 or P160.  There is a prerequisite for P110 of Math 121; if you need an override for that please email me explaining why you feel you should have one.

Learning Resouces/Materials:

  • Textbook: may use textbook from Physics 151 or Physics 160
  • Mastering Physics Licence

  • a basic scientific cacluator (graphing calculators may be used during exams but must have their memories cleared before the exam starts)
  • a ruler
  • and a 3 ring binder.
