Physical Contact with a Chemical

Things you should do BEFORE ever using a chemical, just in case you DO come in contact with one that is harmful.

1) Read the MSDS sheet and determine WHAT ARE the steps to take in case of exposure.

2) Locate the nearest EYE WASH STATION, TELEPHONE, EXIT DOOR, and periodically "practice" going to, and from them with your eyes closed. NOTE: At ALL TIMES, keep a clear path between where you are working and these items to avoid tripping over them in a real emergency. Remember that MANY chemical contact emergencies are from splatter, spray and other means of getting the chemicals accidentally into the eyes.

3) Keep any materials mentioned in the MSDS sheet for the chemicals as neutralizers, nearby and within reach in a well known location if possible.

4) As much as possible, do not "Carry" the spill to other areas (on your clothing, etc.) if you can avoid doing so. NOTE: Don't let this hamper your getting assistance if you need it, but be as careful as possible under the circumstances.
