Desk assignments

There remains only one main graduate student office within the building, and it is rooms 38 in the west wing. Trailer-I in the rear parking lot is the only other area for Graduate Students offices. If you prefer the quiet and solitude of the trailer, please contact Elliott and he will show you that office site. Trailer I which is located (hidden) just north of the North Annex Trailer in the P&A rear lot.  Please NOTE, that these rooms are provided for your convenience, and that you, and many others following you rely on these facilities for studying, reading, and/or just relaxing. Please help us to maintain the rooms and furniture for everyones benefit, since you should note that we are not able to supply brand new furniture in them. The phone numbers are listed on the maps of the rooms at the links for each room above this paragraph.NOTICE: In Rooms 30 and 38, there are quite a few cabinets. file cabinets, and bookshelves. These are to be shared, and will be emptied of all content at the end of each semester and end of summer. Some of the cabinets have locks and those will have assignments of up to two shelves (or drawers for file cabinets) per student with as many as 8 students sharing a cabinet. This will depend on the number of shelves or drawers each student requests, up to a MAXIMUM of two. Your shelves or file cabinet drawers will have your name on them after your request has been approved. Any items on shelves or in file cabinet drawers (without a name attached by Elliott) which have locks, may be trashed without notice if they are not assigned, (by Elliott) and we receive a request for use of them. Please see Elliott Bailey in Room 118 if you are new incoming student in the department, and he will walk you through the various rooms so that you may select an office and a desk, and he will begin the process of getting your keys to the department and your office and desk. Also, please note, that if you no longer have need of your office or desk, turn in your keys to them to Elliott or notify him so that he may reassign the space to a less fortunate Graduate Student.Desks, cabinets, bookcases, tables, and other furniture are placed in these areas and are assigned by Elliott Bailey (room 118). These furniture items are the property of the University of New Mexico, and are not to be defaced, painted, marked upon, or have permanent or semi-permanent decals applied to them. Walls, doors, and other building equipment should not be marked or modified either. All offices and furniture locations are recorded on maps and shall not be moved or swapped without authorization since this information is used to locate students in case of emergencies or other immediate needs. Please NOTE that a desk may seem to be unoccupied, but may be assigned to another student who may not use it very often. If you wish to change desks, please contact Elliott first and he will verify whether or not a desk assignment is current before authorizing you to relocate; he will then provide all keying changes. Keys to any desk, cabinet, room, or whatever, are YOUR responsibility, and you WILL be held liable for any keys (at approximately $25.00 per key) that you cannot produce to turn in when you depart UNM. This applies to ALL keys, even to desks and cabinets. See the Department key policy for more details.
