LAB ORIENTATION ASSIGNMENT
Fall 2006 Full- and Half-Time TAs

Good communication skills are essential for a successful career in the sciences. Communication is particularly important in our undergraduate labs because students are introduced to concepts that may be new or counter-intuitive.  We would like to highlight communication skills during the discussions scheduled for TA Orientation on Monday, August 15, beginning at 9:00 a.m.at Regener Hall.

To facilitate the discussion, be prepared to present a 5-minute talk on a topic, principle, or concept of physics or astrophysics that appears in an introductory textbook such as Halliday and Resnick. Your talk should be geared to an audience having a minimal background in mathematics (i.e., algebra rather than calculus).  A blackboard and a vu-graph projector (with transparencies and pens) will be available for your presentation.  Our goal is to help you develop your communication skills to their fullest potential during your tenure as a TA with the Dept. of Physics & Astronomy at UNM.

If you have any questions about the assignment, please e-mail the Lab Director, Mickey Odom.
