Introduction

Build a working analog to digital nanoammeter PCB using photolithography techniques. Program a computer using LabVIEW to communicate with your nanoammeter via serial port. Measure and record electron current tunneling through a vacuum in a Field Emission Electron Microscope. Analyze the data using Fowler-Nordheim theorem to verify the resulting quantum mechanical nature of electrons in a high electric field.

This course and the text Contemporary Electronics were created by J. A. Panitz in conjunction with National Instruments. This is a truly unique approach to teaching the physics concepts and skills that anyone interested in experimental science will find valuable.
