Homework Assignments XI - XXI , prior to the second Exam

There is a homework assignment due (almost) every class period!
If on paper, they should be turned in at the alphabetically-labeled box at the front of the classroom, before class begins!
If on WebAssign, they are due at 1 A.M. of the night in question.
So a WebAssign(ment) due on, say, Friday, is due no later than 1 hour after Midnight on that Friday, i.e., at 1 A.M. Saturday morning.

No. XI: due on lunes, 16 de septiembre

  1. There are no paper problems today.
  2. WebAssign Problems: There are 4 problems due.
    The first two are still on engines and refrigerators;
the second two are introductory questions concerning charge.

Solutions to HW 11 may be accessed after they are due, by clicking right here.

No. XII: due on miercoles, 18 de septiembre

  1. There are no paper problems due today.
  2. There are 3 WebAssign problems due tonight, concerning charges and Coulomb's Law.

Solutions to HW 12 may be accessed after they are due, by clicking right here.

Note that there are no problems due on 20 de septiembre, by reason of your exam on Thermodynamics.

No. XIII: due on lunes, 23 de septiembre

  1. There is one paper problem due today: Chapter 22, Problem 20P.
  2. 1 question, 1 problem, on WebAssign, from early Chapter 23.

Solutions to HW 13 may be accessed after they are due, by clicking right here.

No. XIV: due miercoles, 25 de septiembre

  1. There are no paper problems due today.
  2. There are 3 WebAssign problems, and 1 WebAssign question, due tonight. They all concern electric fields.

Complete solutions to HW 14 may be accessed by clicking right here.

No. XV: due viernes, 27 de septiembre

  1. One paper problem due this morning: Chapter 23.17P, concerning the electric field for a simple form for an electric quadrupole.
  2. There are 3 WebAssign problems due tonight, concerning electric fields, yet again.

Complete solutions to HW 15 may be accessed by clicking right here.

No. XVI: due lunes, 30 de septiembre

  1. No paper problems due today.
  2. On WebAssign there are 2 problems concerning dipole behavior, from the end of Chapter 23, and 1 problem and 1 question concerning electric flux, from the beginning of Chapter 24.

Complete solutions to HW 16 may be accessed by clicking right here.

No. XVII: due miercoles, 2 de octubre

  1. Again, there are no paper problems due today.
  2. There are two problems and 3 questions due on WebAssign.
They all involve Gauss's Law, electric flux, and symmetry questions.
Complete solutions to HW 17 may be accessed by clicking right here.

No. XVIII: due viernes, 4 de octubre,

  1. 1 problem on paper, due at classtime:
    Chapter 24: Problem 28E
  2. on WebAssign, there are 3 problems to do, all concerning the uses of Gauss' Law.

Complete solutions to HW 18 may be accessed, after they are due, by clicking right here.

No. XIX: due lunes, 7 de octubre

  1. There are two paper problems due this morning:
    1. Chapter 24: Problem 41P,
    2. Also the following problem:
A point charge, +q, is placed at the center of an electrically neutral, spherical conducting shell, with inner radius a and outer radius b.
      1. What charge appears on the inner surface of the shell?
      2. What charge appears on the outer surface of the shell?
      3. What is the net electric field at a distance r < a from the center of the shell?
      4. What is the net electric field at a distance a<r<b from the center of the shell?
      5. What is the net electric field at a distance b<r from the center of the shell?
Sketch some field lines for each of these three regions.
      6. For r>b, what is the net electric field caused just by the central charge and that on the inner surface?
      7. For r>b, what is the net electric field caused just by the charge on the outer surface?
Note that this problem is quite similar to a problem in your text, namely Chapter 24: Problem 40P; however, do this one, instead.
  2. on WebAssign, for this evening, there are 2 problems on Gauss' Law, from Chapter 24, and a single, introductory problem concerning potential difference, V, and its relationship to work, from Chapter 25.

Complete solutions to HW 19 may be accessed, after they are due, by clicking right here.

No. XX: due miercoles, 9 de octubre,

  1. There are no paper problems due today.
  2. on Webassign, 4 Questions, from Chapter 25, concerning Electric Potential

Complete solutions to HW 20 may be accessed, after they are due, by clicking right here.

Second Bonus Problem:

is now assigned, and may be accessed at this webpage.
It is due on 18 October, at classtime, i.e., in approximately one week, i.e.,
The solution will be at this webpage.

No. XXI: due lunes, 14 de octubre,

  1. One paper problem, Chapter 25, Problem 9P.
  2. on WebAssign, there are 5 problems, varying from easy to somewhat difficult, with the last one from Chapter 26.

Complete solutions to HW 21 may be accessed, after they are due, by clicking right here.
