The IfA operates the Capilla Peak
Observatory, featuring a 24" Boller and Chivens
telescope with an excellent CCD camera
at Cassegrain focus. The link to CPO
features many useful databases and
weather sites. Although the IfA is formally
independent of the teaching activities
of UNM, Capilla is used by many of our
classes and individual students, and
the teaching faculty are members of the IfA.
You might want to look at the links to the
instructional pages of the
Department
of Physics and Astronomy (PandA). We offer
astronomically related degrees such
as: Ph.D. in physics with a concentration
in astrophysics,
B.S. in astrophysics,
and a B.A. in physics and astronomy.
As a popular outreach program, we have
open houses at the UNM Campus
Observatory (every clear Friday night
when the University is in session), and
we have an informal brown-bag lunch on
Mondays. Note also that many of
the Friday colloquia in PandA are
astrophysically related. Additionally, the Lodestar Astronomy Center
(LAC), located in the Old Town section of Albuquerque, features astronomically
related exhibits, a planetarium, and a simulated visit to a comet.
