Mike Zeilik, Professor

Research Interests:

My current research focuses on learning and how to improve it in introductory courses

for the novice, non-science major student.  I have pioneered large-scale astronomy education

research at the university level, supported by grants from the National Science Foundation

and NASA. I am internationally known for innovations in astronomy education, astronomy

for the general public, and astronomy workshops for in-service teachers. I have authored

four books, over 100 professional articles, and given over 200 talks to professional and lay

audiences. I have worked as a Senior Research Fellow with the National Institute for Science

Education on issues of classroom assessment to improve learning. I am also a founding member

of the Collaboration for Astronomy Education Research (CAER), which developed the

Astronomy Diagnostic Test used nationally.
